The AIDS Walk is the morning Sunday, May 18th in Central Park.

Ottawa Announces Feb 2009 Tournament

The Ottawa-Gatineau Gay Hockey Association (OGGHA) invites hockey teams from all over North America and Europe to participate in the "National Capital Region Face Off" tournament, an event inviting gay and lesbian players and friends.

The tournament will be held February 20-22, 2009 at Carleton University's Athletics Recreation Centre, the Ice House www.carleton.ca/icehouse (NHL and Olympic size ice surfaces).

This will be the 5th time Ottawa-Gatineau is hosting such an event and we look forward to welcoming many visitors to the Ottawa-Gatineau region for an extended weekend of activities.

The Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) kindly requests your help. GLAAD is presently in a pro-bono consulting engagement with Bain & Company to determine how GLAAD can serve the LGBT community more effectively.

Good Afternoon Gentlemen,

My production company is working on a project for Fox Sports Network. The television series is called Amazing Sports Stories and consists of 12 half-hour documentary-style episodes that will air on FSN during primetime starting in mid-April. Each episode is about interesting and unique, but unknown athletes or teams from throughout the century.

The episodes involve some re-enactments and for one episode in particular we are recreating a 1928 NHL game between the New York Rangers and the Montreal Maroons. I'm contacting you because I need hockey players. The shoot will take two days. The dates of shooting will be March 15th, 16th, or 17th (it will two of the three days). Each participant will be paid $100/day and will get their individual name in the credits at the end of the episode. We need 17 Caucasian participants, preferably between the ages of 20 and 35. All of them need to know how to skate; 15 of them will be hockey players, one of them will be a referee, and one of them will be a coach. The official location of the shoot is TBD, but will be somewhere in New York or North New Jersey.

Please spread the word to your teams especially those who participate in "pick-up" games during the week. Anyone who is interested can contact me directly via email. Within the email, please have them include their hockey experience, height, weight, measurements (i.e. waist, suit, inseam, shirt, skate, and shoe sizes.), phone number, and a couple of recent photos along with any questions or concerns.

I'm really excited about the show and think it will be a great opportunity for everyone involved! This is a great chance to experience something different while gaining exposure!

NYCGHA Hits the Ice for "Hockey The Musical!"

On Saturday, March 15, 14 members of the NYCGHA will travel to Long Beach to
participate in a "challenge" game as part of a fundraiser for "Hockey The
Musical!"

The NYCGHA members playing are Ari Warshawsky, Bob Glasscock, Brian
Harrington, Chris Smith, Daniel Ou, Dave Wiedaseck. Gregg Quider, Grigory
Tovbis, Jeff Adams, Jeff Tuballes, Kevin Jennings, Peter Tomasello, Robb
Riedel and Steve Ryan.

Below is the press release with details on the event. It would be great to
have NYCGHA members, friends and fans come out to cheer on the team for the
game.

On March 15th, 2008, people of all ages -- athletes and non-athletes -

Off Sides Entertainment proudly announces a benefit party to launch its
world premiere of Hockey: the musical! by Justin DeMarco and Rick Wilson,
which will play at the Toronto Fringe Festival, July 2 - 13, 2008! The
production will star Americans Christopher Leidenfrost as Pavel and Jennifer
Hope as Elizabeth, with other leading and supporting players to be cast in
Toronto in April. The production will be directed by Rick Wilson, and
produced by Matt MacLean and Off Sides Entertainment.

Hockey: the musical! is a celebration of the love of Hockey and the
brotherhood of team, but it also explores the political and personal
dilemmas of being gay within the world of professional sports.

Writers Rick Wilson (composer, lyricist, and co-writer of the book) and
Justin DeMarco (co-writer) have formed an unlikely partnership on this
project. Wilson, a gay, high school English and Theatre educator at The
Wheatley School in Old Westbury, New York, and DeMarco, a heterosexual,
sports journalism major at Emerson College, gleaned the idea from a Public
Speaking "How to Play Hockey" presentation that DeMarco gave when he was
Wilson's student. DeMarco says of that presentation, "I brought in
like fifteen sticks. The one who was most interested by the lesson was
Rick. He just kept swinging that stick and dancing around. He kept saying,
"Hockey: the musical! I think we have something."

Off Sides Entertainment thinks they do too. "I love this show," Wilson
says. "It's not just about meaningless production numbers and singing and
dancing. It addresses what America requires of its gay people, especially
in the world of professional sports. Gay people are, of course,
everywhere: in our religious communities, on our sports teams, in our
schools, and in our homes. I don't think a musical is likely to change the
world, but I do hope that it brings some greater awareness along the way as
to what difficulties and challenges are heaped upon gay people, especially
on gay athletes."

In addition to a sneak preview of some of the songs and scenes from Hockey:
the musical!, the March 15th event will host a two-period "challenge game"
between the New York City Gay Hockey Association (NYCGHA) All-Stars and the
newly formed "Straight Arrows" of Long Island.

Off Sides Entertainment has also offered 100 free admissions to the
Gay/Straight Alliances of Long Island so that the young GLBT community can
witness straight and gay hockey players on the ice together, playing the
game they all love, regardless of differences which might otherwise seem to
separate them. "This is one of the most exciting aspects to this event,"
says Jeff Adams, Recruitment Director for the NYCGHA. "With the organizers
reaching out to GSAs on Long Island, it will be a chance for gay and
straight young people to see gay people playing one of the most
hypermasculine sports around and giving it their all."

Teddy Cain, Captain of the "Straight Arrows," says "We love Hockey. We're
looking forward to playing a great game of Hockey. In this world of
difference, labels aside, we're all just looking forward to supporting each
other and having fun."

The event will take place March 15, 2008, at the Arena of Long Beach, 150
Bay Drive, Long Beach, New York from 1:30 to 4:00 p.m. Tickets may be
purchased at hockeythemusical.com, and are $40/Adult, $20/Student and Youth,
$100/Family. Online admissions/reservations are preferred and there is a
$10 surcharge at the door, the day of the event.

Admission also includes the preview of the musical, the challenge game,
lunch, and a skating session with skate rental. (An insurance waiver is

Attached you will find a flyer on A Miracle on Ice Fantasy Camp (21 & over). I am trying to get the word out about this as I feel that it is an opportunity that some of your players may really enjoy. The class will be geared towards skating skill, edge control, speed, and stamina. These focal points will be worked both on the ice and during off-ice training sessions at Blue Streak.

I highly recommend the class due to the small enrollment of 18 skaters allowing the coaching staff to work in a one-on-one environment.
