Stacey began playing hockey since the summer of 2002. Before that she had not been on ice skates since seventh grade and had only experienced hockey from the stands. During summer 2003, she attended CAN/AM hockey camp at Lake Placid, where among other things, she learned to put on her jersey without help. During the fall/winter of 2003 she played hockey with Columbia University's first ever women's team. In 2004 she became a referee for kids.

Though Stacey will always be a Rocket at heart, she is taking a break from hockey to focus on graduate school. She is studying Library and Information Science at Queens College.

She and her partner, Rachel, have been together for ten years - their anniversary is July 1st, hence the number 71 on Stacey's jersey.
